Summer heat & gradually more humid
Summer heat should continue to sizzle this week. Humidity levels should also begin to climb and lead to the return of some afternoon storms.
(PLEASE SEE MAPS ABOVE FOR MORE DETAILS)
2016 VS 2017 SO FAR...
Through Monday, Chattanooga has had 13 days of 90 degree or higher this year (90 is the average high this time of year). However, this same time last year, Chattanooga had already had 35 days of 90 degrees or higher. What a difference a year makes. But, we've also had a completely different weather pattern as well. Last year's drought led to scorching afternoons with lower humidity. So far this Summer, it has been much more humid and we are over 8 inches above average for rainfall. The higher humidity levels is helping hold afternoon highs much lower than last year.
90s CONTINUE THROUGH MID/LATE WEEK
We should add to that yearly total of 90 degree days through late week. A sunny to partly sunny sky Tuesday and Wednesday with lower 90s both days. Wednesday should be gradually a little more humid. So, the Heat Index might make it feel more like the upper 90s. But, along with that rise in humidity could allow for the return of pop up afternoon t-showers Wednesday Afternoon and Evening.
BETTER SHOWER/STORM CHANCES THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY
A very humid weather pattern should continue for late week and the weekend. Each day should exhibit a mix of sun and clouds and afternoon highs in the upper 80s. A more widespread chance for afternoon and evening showers and storms is also possible. Not all day rain, but could cause more interruptions in outdoor activities.
