Record Highs still possible, then eventually better shower chances

5 Day Rainfall Potential

A Record High temperature was set at Lovell Field in Chattanooga on Wednesday. And, we should be in Record territory through Friday. Shower chances should also be a little higher through the weekend.

RECORD TEMPERATURE WATCH

The high of 81 degrees on Thursday set a new daily Record High for February 22nd in Chattanooga. This shattered the old daily record of 77 degrees in 1980. The 81 degree mark is also the highest temperature ever recorded in Chattanooga during the month of February.

Record High temperatures are again possible Friday. The Record for Friday is 78 degrees set in 2012. More sun breaking through the cloud cover is the key on whether or not we break these Records.

LOW RAIN CHANCES FRIDAY

As a cold front remains stationary to our north and west, the chance for rain locally on Friday remains low. An isolated shower cannot be ruled out. But, for most areas locally it looks cloudy early then a mix of clouds and sun for the afternoon. As mentioned above, the afternoon temperatures could reach record levels.

BETTER WEEKEND SHOWER CHANCES

The stalled cold front could finally make some movement to the east during the day Saturday. So, our local shower chances could increase during the day. While still not an all day rain, there could be some showers from time to time interrupting outdoor plans. The better shower chances locally could be from Saturday Evening through early Sunday Afternoon as the front moves by. Rainfall amounts locally could reach around 1". But, much higher amounts of up to 5" or more possible over west Tennessee.

Some strong storms are possible to our west Saturday Night. Some storms could have some damaging gusts. We will be keeping an eye on these storms as that move to the east through our viewing area early Sunday.

A LITTLE COOLER NEXT WEEK

No big arctic blast, but temperatures for the start of next week should be a little cooler. Afternoon highs should drop to the 60s and morning lows in the 40s. These temperatures are still above average for late February.

MORE RAIN NEXT WEEK AS WELL

Another soaking rainfall could occur toward the middle of next week (Wednesday and Thursday). Early forecast model projections have the potential of 1"-2" of rain possible. So, we will be keeping an eye on this next "weather maker"!

As always, you can depend on the StormTrack 9 Team for updates!
