Increasing shower chances & temperatures this week

Tuesday Morning Outlook

We have had a very wet start to February so far and more rain could be on the way. Along with increasing rain chances should also be increasing temperatures through late week.

Through Monday (Feb 12th), Chattanooga has received 4.52" of rain. This is 2.65" above average for the month. This boost in rainfall locally actually helped put a dent in the yearly and Winter seasonal rainfall deficits. As of Monday, there is still a rainfall deficit for the year of 1.11" and a Winter deficit of 2.67". But, with more rain chances on the way both of those deficit totals should continue to decrease.

Most of Tuesday should remain cloudy. But, at times, some patchy light showers could move through. Not an all day rain chance and the best chance could occur during the morning commute time. Otherwise, cloudy and just patchy light showers for the rest of the day. Still a cool day with afternoon highs in the lower 50s. Temperatures Tuesday Night should hold steady in the mid/upper 40s.

It looks as if we could have an increased coverage of showers locally on Valentines Day Wednesday. Overall, off and on periods of rain both during the morning and into the afternoon. Otherwise cloudy and temperatures again in the mid 50s. We could get some breaks and mainly cloudy Wednesday Evening, but we'll keep you updated on those trends. Forecast model projections range from 0.20" (GFS Model) to 0.80" (European Model). So, like this past weekend, rainfall amounts will vary around our viewing area.

The showers from Wednesday could still linger early Thursday before possibly moving away to the north as a southerly flow strengthens across the Southeast. This could allow our local temperatures to warm quite a bit in the 60s close to 70 by Thursday Afternoon under a partly to mostly cloudy sky.

An approaching cold front could again increase the coverage of rain locally through Friday Afternoon. Afternoon temperatures just a tad lower than Thursday in the lower 60s. It appears that this shower chance could continue through late Friday Night and early Saturday as the cold front moves through.

Behind the front should be another round of much cooler air. Afternoon temperatures on Saturday should cool back to the lower 50s. Showers could return once again by Sunday!

As always you can depend on the StormTrack 9 Team for updates!
