Well, it should come as no surprise to anyone that April was a cool and wet month. Much cooler than the 2017 version!


The average temperature at Lovell Field in Chattanooga was 57.5 degrees which was 3 degrees below average. In fact, 3 of the first 4 months of 2018 have had below average temperatures. The warmest temperature during April 2018 was 82 on the 13th. The coldest temperature was 31 degrees on the 17th. Compared to April 2017, it was much cooler. Last April the average temperature was 66,5 degrees which was 6 degrees ABOVE average.


Not only was it chilly at times, but also soggy, The total rainfall was 6.59" which was 2.60" above average. The wettest day was on the 22nd with 1.69" of rain. April 2017 was much wetter with a monthly total of 10.43". So, we have had our fair share of April showers the past few years.


The average temperature range on May 1st is a high of 77 and a low of 53. That average range warms by the 31st to a high of 84 and a low of 62. Average rainfall for May is 4.10" The Climate Prediction Center projects the possibility of a warmer and drier pattern locally for the May. It should certainly be like that for the first week of the month. We'll just have to see how long this pattern holds. But, it's a complete reversal so for of the April weather pattern.
