Red Bank High School announces new head football coach Tuesday
Red Bank High School has a new head coach for the Lions' football team: Chris Brown.
Coach Brown comes to Red Bank from Cleveland High School where he currently serves as a varsity assistant football coach. Prior to his tenure at Cleveland, Brown was an assistant coach at Ooltewah High School and Unicoi County High School. He played college football for Vanderbilt University and has a degree in English from East Tennessee State University.
“We are excited to welcome Chris Brown to Lion Country. Coach Brown brings a commitment to excellence both on the field and in the classroom. I know he will build upon the great tradition of Red Bank football and our current success,” Red Bank Principal Elaine Harper said.
"I am incredibly humbled and excited for the opportunity to lead Red Bank High School's football program,” Coach Brown stated. “It is an honor to be a part of the rich tradition and true community pride. My wife and I are fully committed to investing all we can to continue to build on such a respectable and strong program."
Brown's arrival comes after former coach Chad Grabowski was fired earlier this month. In a letter to NewsChannel 9, principal Elaine Harper stated that Grabowski's departure was "in the best interest of the program" to make the change.
The selection committee was comprised of community, parent, and school representatives. Coach Brown received an overwhelming endorsement from all members of the committee and was the unanimous choice.
Parent Tenika Jackson stated that Brown was the “best candidate” for the position and Assistant Principal Wendell Weathers noted that, “we found the person who will bring the community together.”
Former RBHS coach and alumna Susan Thurman stated that Coach Brown is “the total package” and is “the perfect fit for Red Bank.”
Red Bank High School thanks Wendell Weathers, Tenika Jackson, Susan Thurman, assistant principal Monica Gordon, athletic director Mandi Munn, dean of students Stefan Hunt, faculty member Dani Morris, and former player Gerald Ware for serving on the selection committee.
