Friday Night Rivals *Broadcast* Game: McCallie at Baylor
Our Friday Night Rivals Broadcast game essentially needs no introduction.
McCallie at Baylor: a rivalry that envelops the city and transcends generations.
McCallie (6-0) is ranked #1 in the state, while Baylor (5-0) is ranked #3.
A big storyline this week - McCallie's Jay Hardy. Just about every school in the SEC has offered him, including Alabama and Georgia. But last Friday, a cheap shot on his knee from a West Forsyth player injured Hardy. He'll be out for several weeks. Coach Ralph Potter watched the injury happen on replay. "We have those ipads that do the replays almost instantaneously. I got handed that. When I saw that, it was the most flagrant thing I've ever seen."
But Coach Potter said his team, with quality wins already notched, will be ready for Friday night. A big difference this season has been the quality and experience of his offensive line.
Meanwhile, the magnitude of this rivalry is known by all. Potter noted, "A lot of people care about it, obviously. A lot of people are emotionally invested in it."
Across the Tennessee River, motivation tactics are simple for Baylor. "The motivation that we've used is we take the combined scores over the last three years. I think it's 103-27. That's probably enough motivation and the the fact that my graduating senior class hasn't beaten McCallie in their time here," head coach Phil Massey said.
Both teams are unbeaten in the region with postseason dreams. Baylor has home field advantage and knows what is at stake. "What better position to be in and not only be playing your rival, but you're getting to play them in your yard and they walk in they're number one in the state. So if you think you've got a chance to try to make a state run, then you gotta go through McCallie," Massey said.
The game will be broadcast on the CW Chattanooga on Friday night.
Pregame is at 7:00pm. Kickoff is at 7:30.
