Officials confirm magnitude 2.5 earthquake in East Tennessee Friday evening
Officials with the United States Geological Survey (USGS) confirm an earthquake struck East Tennessee on Friday evening.
According to their report, the magnitude 2.5 quake happened at 6:04 p.m. EDT 4.34 miles northwest of Coalfield in Morgan County.
The epicenter of the quake was on Kelley Mountain at the south end of Frozen Head State Park, according to the USGS.
USGS officials say the earthquake happened 7.5 miles below ground.
