Water main break affects residents in Athens Wednesday
UPDATE: All repairs have now been made.
The Athens Utilities Board (AUB) reports that two water main breaks affected the water for several residents Wednesday morning.
The first happened earlier in the morning in front of Simmons Bank on the southbound side of Congress Parkway.
Crews are now valving off the water main. This affects Simmons Bank, SouthEast Bank, Clayton Homes, Park Crest Apartments, US Money, and Ingleside Motel.
AUB says in a Facebook post, "We hope the job will be only a couple of hours, but when digging there are sometimes surprises. We'll do our very best and keep you informed."
Later in the morning AUB reported a second break, this time in the Fisher Street area:
This water main break happened at 314 Fisher Street.
Repairs are affecting nearby customers on these streets: Fisher, Knoxville Ave, N. Jackson, Clayton, Winder & Kelly.
AUB says, "We are so sorry for these inconvenient water main breaks. There is never a good time for it! We are working as quickly as possible to get all repairs made and get everyone back in water asap."
