Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson confirms to NewsChannel 9 that Bob Jay Cole, who made headlines this past week after his wife's body was found near LaFayette, is now in custody after being wanted for a parole violation.

Sheriff Wilson says Cole turned himself in to a Department of Community Supervision officer at a location near Interstate 75 and Georgia Highway 53 in Gordon County Monday evening. Wilson says Cole had been camping, and arranged to turn himself in using a third party.

He is now in the Walker County Jail with no bond.

A parole board issued a warrant Monday for Cole's arrest based on a parole violation. Sheriff Wilson would not specify what that parole violation was, and told us Cole is not facing any charges right now related to the death of his wife, Britney Parker Cole, whose body was found by two farmers in a field near LaFayette.

We learned last week that Britney Parker married Cole just days before her body was found.

According to Georgia Department of Corrections records, Cole was released from state prison on parole in August of 2018, having served 27 years behind bars. Court records show that Cole was convicted of robbing and murdering Benjamin West in 1990. Cole was just 16 years old at the time.

Sheriff Wilson told NewsChannel 9 on the phone Tuesday morning that he wants to be "cautious" in naming Cole a suspect in Britney Cole's death.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
