Tunnel Hill residents unaware of person deputies say was held captive, tortured nearby
A person has escaped after Whitfield County Deputies say he was shot, then held captive and tortured.
The person's accused attackers are sitting in the Whitfield County jail tonight.
NewsChannel 9 talked to five neighbors where the alleged incident happened.
All of them said it was upsetting that somebody so close was suffering so badly, and they never knew.
Police say Chirstopher Rollins and Kristen Weaver shot someone at their home twice and then would not let him leave.
We read Vic Reed the release deputies sent us about the cruel things police say happened over the next two days.
"The victim was held captive, and during the time, endured forms of torture including being burned," it says.
Reed said, "It's I just never imagined that'd be next door to you."
Deputies say after two days of torture, the victim told them he escaped early Tuesday morning.
That's when he made it to the hospital to be treated.
"It just blows my mind," Reed said. "It's very hard to comprehend that people could be that evil."
The release also says that when deputies searched the house on North Center Street, they found firearms, explosive devices, and methamphetamine.
We reached out to the Whitfield County Sheriff's office but are still waiting to learn the victim's name.
We do not have an update on his status at this point.
