THP: 2 hospitalized after semi-truck overturns in Sequatchie County Thursday night
Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) says two people were sent to the hospital Thursday night when a semi-truck overturned on Cagle Mountain in Sequatchie County.
THP says it happened on Highway 8. According to TDOT, the truck overturned near Harmon Road, and was reported around 7 p.m. Central Time, temporarily shutting down traffic in both directions.
Emergency responders were able to pull two people from the truck.
On Friday morning, crews began cleanup of the crash.
It took two 50-ton wreckers to pull apart the cab and trailer separately.
The truck took out a good chunk of guard rail, and some of what was in the trailer spilled hundreds of yards down the mountain.
Cleanup can take a while, because the truck is in a dangerous spot. That's one of the challenges Nick Griswold faces in the towing process.
"It's so far off the side of the mountain, load it and it's so hard to get to. Limited working space," says Nick Griswold with Griswold and Son's Towing. "Six to eight hours. Probably could run into more than that depending on how much cargo there is to get out."
Crews haven't had to work a scene at this particular spot in about a year.
THP is investigating the accident. They don't know yet what caused the truck to turn over.
