Veterans living in Tennessee now have two new resources in the state that address their needs, according to the Tennessee Department of Corrections (TDOC). One of them is in Bledsoe County. The other is in Only, in the western part of the state.

TDOC says the Veterans Housing Units opened on Friday, February 1st. The Bledsoe County facility is located at the Bledsoe County Correctional Complex in Pikeville.

The unit in Only is located at Turney Center Industrial Complex.

The facilities will provide services for veterans to address their unique and specific issues through partnerships with the Tennessee Department of Veterans Services.

TDOC says the units are modeled after a Behavioral Therapeutic Community that focuses on peer interaction and support to build on the structure and dignity instilled through military service. Each unit will also have veterans-centric staff including Veterans Service Officers and a Veterans Justice Specialist.

The Veterans Units currently have a capacity of 182 men. TDOC is looking to expand the program later in 2019.
