UPDATE (September 18th):

A man wanted for homicide was captured by Chattanooga Police and U.S. Marshals Wednesday. An affidavit says officers arrested Powell at a home on Taylor Street without incident.

JeMichael Powell is accused of shooting and killing 19-year-old Quintasia Tate at the Rainbow Creek Apartments in Chattanooga on Monday, August 26.

Tate's family told us she was a mother, and that she was pregnant at the time of her death.

An affidavit obtained by NewsChannel 9 reveals more information about Tate's death. It says an investigating officer at the crime scene was able to access Tate's phone, which revealed a conversation on Facebook messenger with a person known as "Jay Mike." The messages said he was outside her apartment and asked her to come out and speak with him. The last message to Tate showed "Jay Mike saying "Walkn up," right before 12:30 a.m.

Investigators later tied "Jay Mike" to JeMichael Powell. They also spoke with witnesses about Powell. One witness claimed an encounter with Powell that night, while he was driving an orange Nissan Altima belonging to Tate. He told the witness that he needed to return the vehicle, and that he had stopped at Tate's apartment earlier that night "to scare her." He also admitted to shooting her and driving off in her vehicle.

Powell was later added to both the TBI's Most Wanted list and Hamilton County's Top 12 Most Wanted list. The TBI said last week that a reward of $2,500 was being offered for information leading to Powell's arrest.

Chattanooga Police say he is now in Hamilton County Jail, charged with criminal homicide and unlawful possession of a firearm.

This is a developing story and will be updated as we learn more.

UPDATE (September 5th):

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department has added JeMichael Powell to the county's 12 Most Wanted list.

Anyone with any information regarding Powell’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact their local law enforcement agency or the HCSO Fugitive Division at 423-209-7140.
