The Whitfield County Sheriff's Department is investigating a stabbing that happened inside a home in Dalton early Monday morning. According to deputies, it happened at Riverbend Road around 5:20 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers found 57-year-old Sidney Lamar Quarles with several superficial stab wounds to his arms, legs, and chest area.

Officers determined Mr. Quarles and his ex-girlfriend, 31-year-old Carmon Patterson, had gotten into an argument at the residence and it turned physical. During the fight, authorities say Patterson picked up a pair of scissors and stabbed Quarles several times.

Neighbors say they heard Quarles and Patterson arguing before the stabbing. Marvin Robinson lives nextdoors and said deputies asked him if he knew anything.

"I told them I heard a faint holler - and he sounded like he was arguing back with the lady late last night," said Marvin Robinson. "This ain't the first time they fought but it is the first time any violence had happened. "

Ivan Riviera stayed with a friend who lives in the same building where the stabbing happened - and says he's concerned an argument escalated to violence.

"it's just scary," said Ivan Riviera. "It can happen right next door and you not even know it."

Mr. Quarles was transported to Hamilton Medical Center, the injuries he received does not appear to be life threatening. An arrest warrant has been issued for Patterson on a charge of Aggravated Assault.
