Sheriff's Office: East Ridge HS student charged with statutory rape Tuesday
An East Ridge High School student has been charged with statutory rape after the sheriff's office says a faculty member caught him and another student having sex Tuesday.
According to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office (HCSO), the faculty member told the School Resource Officer (SRO), who found the male student involved was of legal age.
HCSO spokesman Matt Lea says 19-year-old Tegra M. Mutubwa was arrested and charged with statutory rape due to the difference in age between the two students. Tegra is in the 11th grade, according to Hamilton County Schools spokesman Tim Hensley.
Lea says Tegra faces two counts: one because of Tuesday's incident, and a second count from a previous incident involving the same student, which they say was uncovered during the SRO's investigation.
The HCSO says the female student is not of legal age, and her name is not being released.
