Rhea Co. High School student nails American Idol Audition, heading to Hollywood
Drake McCain wowed the judges during his American Idol Audition.
The 17 year-old, from Spring City, Tennessee has quickly grown into a hometown star after announcing his Idol aspirations.
Friends, family and community members joined him at Rhea County High School, to watch the his audition for the first time.
Barely able to contain his excitement, Rhea County high freshman, Drake McCain says, " to see myself on TV and with everybody that I’ve been around all my life... it’s going to be a good time."
Drake received a unanimous 'yes' from all three Idol judges.
He shared a special moment during his audition judge Katy Perry. She shared a video of the two of them singing on her twitter and Instagram.
Drake says singing with Katy Perry was one of the most exciting parts, "I knew I'd do all right, but I didn’t think I’d come out there knowing I sang with Katy Perry."
Drake's mom, Courtney Swafford, says the experience still feels surreal.
Adding, "We actually got to hear them say those four words.... we lost it of course."
She says knowing the community stands behind Drake means everything.
