School spokesman: Brainerd High student taken into custody after alleged rape
A Brainerd High School student has been taken into police custody after being accused of raping another student, Hamilton County Schools confirmed Thursday.
Hamilton County Schools spokesman Tim Hensley says a Brainerd High student reported the incident happened after school had dismissed for the day Wednesday.
In a statement, Hensley says administrators immediately called law enforcement and the Department of Children Services.
Chattanooga Police began an investigation, which according to the report involved two juvenile students. They took the accused student into custody Wednesday night.
“We recognize our first responsibility to parents is to protect their children in our care, and we are deeply saddened that this incident has occurred,” said Dr. Bryan Johnson, superintendent of Hamilton County Schools.
Hamilton County Schools says it is working closely with law enforcement in this case.
