Sandy the Flower Man, popular Chattanooga local, passes away
Angela Tucker, Sandy's daughter, confirmed that he passed away on Sunday.
Sandy Bell commonly known as Sandy the Flower Man, was often seen around Chattanooga selling flowers.
Many consider Sandy to be a popular Chattanooga, making appearances downtown for years.
Sandy washed windows at Stone Source on Broad Street for over 15 years.
The store's owner, Anna Baker, told News Channel 9's Taylor Stewart that Sandy's always tried to make people smile.
She adds, "There were days when you could tell he wasn’t feeling good but he was still smiling."
She says he will be missed, a sentiment shared by many people across social media.
In 2015, Sandy battled cancer and the Chattanooga community pulled together to help raise money.
Sandy suffered a stroke in 2017. Business owners placed donation jars to help Sandy.
Sandy's sister Harriett Seals says her brother wanted to lift people spirits.
She says he had a genuine love for his community and the people in it and sharing flowers was his way of giving back.
Store clerks at Humphrey's say they saved flowers for him to pick up every Monday.
Sandy's sister adds, "I want everybody in Chattanooga to know that Sandy loved them for real and when he gave them flowers it was to make somebody's day."
