RINGGOLD, Ga. — A Ringgold Police Officer is recovering after he was hit by a car while working to clean a bad accident on Interstate 75 Monday, according to Ringgold Police (RPD).
A post on the Ringgold Police Department's Facebook page says the accident happened after the officers were helping other law enforcement agencies clear a bad wreck on Interstate 75. near the 348 mile marker, where a motorist lost the drive shaft on the vehicle.
According to the GSP, Veodis Gains was pulling a trailer when he hit the officers. Gains told police he didn't see the emergency vehicles. He has been cited for failure to maintain lane and failure to move over.
The post says officers were working to clear the scene when a motorist failed to abide by the "Move Over" law and struck two RPD vehicles that had their blue lights activated.
One of the officers, who was not in his vehicle, managed to escape unharmed. But RPD says Detective Wilborn Dycus, who was inside his vehicle, was hurt badly, and had to be extricated from his patrol car. RPD says Dycus suffered several broken bones and "may require surgery," according to the post. But the post says that Dycus remains "in good spirits" and is expected to make a full recovery.

The post does not say whether the driver was cited, nor does it give the driver's condition after the wreck. We are working to learn those details right now. Depend on us for updates as we get them.
