Police respond to deadly shooting in Cleveland
UPDATE: Cleveland Police have now identified the victim. Go here for the latest.
Cleveland police are responding to a deadly shooting that happened early Monday morning.
According to CPD spokeswoman Sergeant Evie West, the call came from the area of Springbrook Apartments just after midnight Monday.
Police say one person has died as a result of that shooting. Another has been taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police tell us several people were in the apartment at the time of the shooting.
Police are still investigating the shooting, and have not yet identified the victim.
"We brought different people here to the station to conduct some witness interviews and we're just kind of putting everything together to come up with a motive, purpose [and] all that," Sgt. West said.
Police are pretty familiar with this apartment complex.
Back in April, they responded to a stabbing there where two people died.
Because of that, many people who live and even visit Springbrook Apartments now feel the need to protect themselves.
"I don't come outside without a Taser. That's on me - at all times," said Abigail Walton-West.
She has lived on and off at the complex for many years.
She's not scared to live here, but her and her neighbors all agree, they're always very observant once they step outside their apartments.
"Let's go back to the old days - if you get your butt whooped, you'll talk next week. If you're dead, you can't come back," said Daphne Smith, daughter lives at Springbrook.
This is a developing story. Depend on us for updates as we get them.
