Woman trampled trying to flee Hamilton Place Mall
Three people are injured after police say someone threw fireworks into a store.
No one is seriously hurt but several people feared for their lives as they tried to run away.
Those who were there describe the mall as chaotic.
Many people thought the fireworks were gunshots.
"Immediately people started screaming and we looked around and saw the flood of people running toward the exit so we just got up and took off with them," Ivy Ervin said.
Ivy says her priority was her little sister's safety.
As she made sure her sister kept moving, Ivy was pushed down by the crowd.
"Someone stepped on my back. I think my knee is just what took the first hit," Ervin said.
Ervin says she couldn't get up for almost 30 seconds.
Her knee is now swollen and sore.
What may have only been a minute before she was outside safe is something she'll remember forever.
"The person from Baskin Robbins jumped over the counter to get out of the way," she said.
Police responded to reports of shot fired inside the mall just after 4:30 Monday afternoon.
Beverley King and her granddaughter and friend weren't far away in American Eagle at the time.
"People running and rushing in and people started screaming and little kids were screaming," King said.
Hamilton Place Spokeswoman Kim Carson confirmed with NewsChannel 9 that a group of juveniles set off fireworks inside a store.
Ella Graham says it was enough to remind her something bad can happen anywhere.
"It makes you realize how scary it is. When you see it on the news it's not that scary but when you're in it it's like wow, it's scary," Graham said.
