Police are searching for a chase suspect who they say bolted after a fiery crash in Chattanooga Monday night. Officers confirm one passenger has died in this incident.

Fort Oglethorpe Police Captain Keith Sewell says the chase started in the city just before 11 pm after officers tried to stop the car for reckless driving.

According to Captain Sewell, the pursuit went into Chattanooga, where the driver lost control and hit a power pole. Chattanooga PD spokesperson Trevor Tomas says the crash happened on East 38th Street.

Sewell says the car caught fire with three people inside: Douglas Cody Gass (the driver), and two passengers. Police say Gass got out and fled on foot, and as of Wednesday afternoon is still on the run.

The two passengers were taken to Erlanger, one of them with burns. Tomas says one of those passengers has died. We do not yet know their identities.

Sewell says charges are pending against Gass. Chattanooga Police are investigating the incident.
