Today, Governor Bill Haslam and Jake Steinfeld, Chairman of the National Foundation for Governors' Fitness Councils, announced on Monday Bledsoe County Middle School is among three Tennessee schools selected to each receive a DON’T QUIT! Fitness Center.

The multi-million dollar physical fitness campaign has named Bledsoe County Middle School in Pikeville, Cherokee Elementary School in Memphis and Catlettsburg Elementary School in Sevierville as the state’s most outstanding schools for demonstrating leadership in getting and keeping their students fit.

“This is a very exciting time for Tennessee and the three schools being awarded a DON’T QUIT! Fitness Center for their efforts in demonstrating a passion for fitness,” said Governor Bill Haslam. “I thank Jake Steinfeld and the National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils for bringing the DON’T QUIT! Fitness Campaign to Tennessee and for helping motivate our students to get fit. Not only does being fit mean being healthy, it also helps instill confidence, self-esteem and overall sense of well-being. I am proud of all three schools for leading the way for healthier and fitter students across Tennessee.”

The National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils program will make its way into all 50 states in the coming years. Each fitness center is financed through public/private partnerships with companies like The Coca-Cola Company, Amerigroup Foundation, Wheels Up and Nike, and does not rely on taxpayer dollars or state funding. TuffStuff Fitness International provides all of the fitness equipment, which is manufactured right here in the United States. The Foundation’s goal is to build a nation of the fittest, healthiest kids in the world.

“Obesity is America’s arch enemy. I knew it would take an army of leaders to fight this disease head on. I was thrilled when Governor Haslam joined our efforts to help raise awareness of childhood obesity and to help put a stop to it in Tennessee,” said Jake Steinfeld. “The National Foundation is really excited to award Bledsoe County Middle, Cherokee Elementary and Catlettsburg Elementary with new fitness centers that will have a lasting impact on kids and their community now, and well into their futures!”

These state-of-the-art DON’T QUIT! Fitness Centers will be unveiled during ribbon cutting ceremonies this fall.
