The Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a home in a Hixson neighborhood and found a hole in a basement.

It happened at a home in the Bradford neighborhood on Bradford Place Street.

Battalion Chief Don Bowman says neighbors called for help when they noticed the house sinking. No one was home at the time.

Bowman says heavy rain is likely to blame for mud getting into the basement, and causing an exterior wall to partially collapse. He says it appears to be about 20-feet deep.

A building inspector told the homeowner she needs to get the wall fixed before she could stay there.
