SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTGS) — Georgia state legislators announced a new bill that will get rid of income taxes for the retired military within Georgia.
Midway Representative Al Williams District 168 proposed the bill.
He says if it becomes law, it will be putting money back into veterans' pockets.

"The cash that this will put in the pockets of retired people who have defended this country meant a lot to this country and gave their all. They will now have some additional cash in their pockets because of this tax cut," Williams said.
Williams added that there are over 700,000 total veterans in Georgia.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp said that the passing of this bill would be a great way to keep military members in the state after they retire.
"Of course, it's going to help us with our workforce development in our state, one of the biggest issues we got," Kemp said. "But it's also just a big thank you to those members to keep them in our state and not have them move to border states or other places around the country."
Kemp added that this is an issue that everyone can agree on.
"Everybody says this is the number one issue for the retired military and our veterans, and so it's great to have bipartisan support. We are going to get this done and get it done quickly. It's going to be great."
