Charges pending for 'asleep at the wheel' driver in Highway 58 crash

All lanes have been reopened on Highway 58 northbound.

On Tuesday morning, Chattanooga Police told NewsChannel 9 more details on the investigation. Witnesses say a Ford Ranger was weaving in and out of the turn lane while heading north. A Honda Civic was in the turn lane, facing southbound traffic when the Ranger struck it head on. The Ranger then flipped on its top.

From the hospital, the Ranger driver admitted to falling asleep at the wheel. Police say charges are pending against him.

The initial call came in just after 8:00 p.m. Monday.

Chattanooga Police have confirmed that one vehicle flipped onto it's roof, trapping the driver inside.

Police have closed Hickory Valley Road and all but one lane of Highway 58 northbound after the accident.

Police are advising drivers to find an alternate route.

Four people were reportedly injured in the accident, with two being listed in critical condition.

Authorities have confirmed that all four victims have been taken to a local area hospital via EMS.

Police tell us that it will take several hours to clean up the accident.

Chattanooga Police Traffic Investigations are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
