Lightning hits Apison home, leaving fence charred

Local firefighters say the evidence of a lightning strike was left behind on a home's chain link fence Thursday.

The Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) responded to a call that a home had been struck by lightning in Apison.

VFD fire teams say the home itself had only minor damage and no fire. Where it really showed was on the chain link fence outside.

Pictures the VFD shared on Twitter show scorch marks on several spots on the fence. According to firefighters, the bolt of lightning traveled through the fence around the home.

Fire officials say this is the perfect example of why you need to be in a safe place when storms move through our area.

"When thunder roars, go indoors."
