The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been called to the scene of a shooting involving an officer on Wilkes Avenue in the Dallas Bay area of Hamilton County Friday morning.

Authorities say the shooting happened after deputies responded to the home after responding to an "unwanted person" call at 1927 Wilkes Avenue.

HCSO spokesman Matt Lea says "During the course of the call a male subject was shot after a confrontation took place with deputies. The details that led up to the shooting are under investigation by the TBI."

TBI agents showed up a short time after the shooting happened.

The Hamlton County Sheriff's Office says District Attorney Neal Pinkston has been advised and has asked the TBI to conduct the formal investigation.

The HCSO says no Sheriff’s personnel were injured in the shoot. The HCSO has not yet identified the suspect, but say he had non-life-threatening injuries. The TBI later said he was shot in the leg.

An ambulance was leaving the scene as our crew was arriving.

As per policy, the deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave.
