In God We Trust plates now available in Tennessee
As of July 1, you can now get a Tennessee license plate that says In God We Trust. It looks like the standard plate, with the phrase written in the middle.
In Hamilton County, they have 5,000 of these new plates ready to sell. It's the same fee as a standard plate, but you have to request it in place of the standard plate. If you want to switch to the new plate, there is a $2 processing fee.
"I'm sure they're going to be a popular plate, a lot of people requested something like this in the past so I'm sure they're going to sell quickly," said Monica Brown, with the Hamilton County Motor Vehicle Department.
We caught up with drivers outside of the courthouse to hear what they think.
Rick Johnston says he would consider getting one of the plates for his vehicle.
"I don't think there is enough of that in the U.S.," Johnston said.
Ebony Jacoway said she plans to put the plate on her new car.
"It's always good to be able to know that in God we do trust on our plates, money and whatever we have that the Lord blesses us with," Jacoway said.
In the state of Georgia, In God We Trust stickers have been available since 2010.
We spotted 59 cars with the stickers on them in three different parking lots in Fort Oglethorpe.
Catoosa County driver Elsie Bell said she plans to get one for her car.
"I think everybody ought to let it be known that we as America trust in God. I think that will help us all if we remember that daily," Bell said.
Catoosa County Tax Commissioner Gary Autry says they hand out about 3,000 stickers a year. The stickers go on top of the county name on the license plate.
The tax commisioner in Catoosa County tells me they hand out about 3,000 In God We Trust stickers every year in that county.
