Highway 153 southbound reopens after car fire on Chickamauga Dam Tuesday afternoon

UPDATE (3:15 p.m.):

TDOT has reopened both lanes of southbound traffic on Highway 153 over Chickamauga Dam after a car caught fire Tuesday afternoon.

Chattanooga firefighters with Quint 19 & Engine 22 were there to put the fire out. Our NewsChannel 9 SkyCam caught footage of the response:

It's not clear whether anyone was hurt in this incident.

UPDATE (2:18 p.m.):

TDOT is now reporting several vehicles involved in a crash right around the scene of the cargo fire. It's in the 153 southbound lanes right over the old Chickamauga Lock.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The Tennessee Department of Transportation has shut down part of Highway 153 in Hamilton County at the Chickamauga Dam due to a cargo fire.

According to TDOT's Smartway website, it was reported just before 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and is not expected to be cleared until 4 p.m.
