Chattanooga shelter says 10-year-old allegedly stabbed family pet with pocket knife
The Humane Educational Society confirms they're investigating the stabbing of a family pet, allegedly at the hands of a 10-year-old boy.
Center director Bob Citrullo says the call came in yesterday evening from a home on Sevier Street.
A terrier was stabbed multiple times in the face with a pocket knife.
Citrullo says the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office contacted them about the case.
The dog, a 12-week-old puppy named Mika, was taken to Regional Institute for Veterinary Emergencies and Referrals (RIVER) in Chattanooga for emergency surgery. One of her eyes could not be repaired, so it was removed.
She's currently recovering at the Humane Educational Society.
Citrullo says they are pursuing Animal Cruelty charges.
Citrullo also says another dog living at the residence is now in protective custody at the Humane Educational Society.
