Hamilton Co. deputy indicted on 6 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor
A Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy has been indicted, accused of possessing child pornography.
Agents arrested John Bruce Spaulding on Thursday, one day after the grand jury handed down his indictment.
The indictment says Spaulding "did unlawfully and knowingly possess material that includes a minor engaged in sexual activity or simulated sexual activity...."
Spaulding faces a total of six charges.
In 2009, Spaulding was indicted for having an alleged inappropriate relationship with two juveniles in White County, Tennessee. At the time, Spaulding served as a deputy with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
"That was nearly a two year case which he was off without pay," said Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond.
Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond tells NewsChannel 9 the charges were dismissed in that case, and he was put back on the job with the HCSD.
"We've had no choice at that point but to take him back as an officer since there was no pending charges on him," said Sheriff Hammond.
Hammond says Deputy Spalding was immediately placed on administrative leave with pay on July 29, until the conclusion of the TBI’s review.
He's currently suspended without pay, and in addition to the TBI investigation, his case is being subjected to an internal affairs review.
"I don't know that he's guilty this time. We've gotta wait and see what happens," said Sheriff Hammond.
Spaulding is due in court on September 16th.
NewsChannel 9 tried reaching out to Spaulding but never heard back.
