COALMONT, Tenn. — The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office says they are working an overnight shooting that happened in Coalmont on Ranger Creek Rd.
According to the sheriff's office, at around 8:42 p.m. on Friday, deputies responded to the residence of Dale Nolan.
When they arrived, deputies say they found 24-year-old Stone Nolan in the living room floor with a single gunshot wound to the upper torso.
Police say Nolan had been shot by his father 56-year-old Dale Nolan.
“The preliminary findings in this incident lead us to believe this was a case of self-defense. As with any shooting death, we will put together our findings and turn them over to the12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office for review, " said Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum.
Sheriff Shrum also says Stone Nolan had been arrested on a couple of occasions for domestic assault and vandalism at the residence.
Stone was taken to the emergency room at Emerald Hodgson where he was pronounced dead.
Police say an autopsy has been requested.
