Grundy Co. Sheriff says Sunday shooting in Altamont leaves one dead, 3 others injured
Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum has released new information about the shooting of four people that left one woman dead.
Sheriff Shrum tells our crew 6 children were present when the shooting began in the yard of the Altamont home.
The call first came in around 3:30 p.m. from 12466 SR 56.
Sheriff Shrum identifies the shooter as John Smith of Marion County.
According to Sheriff Shrum, the woman who died was John Smith's estranged wife, Carolyn Nicole Powell.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff Shrum says Smith was shot in the head by the woman's father, Jerone Powell, who owns the home where the shooting took place.
Sheriff Shrum says Powell was shot in the side.
According to the Sheriff, another man that was shot may have critical injuries.
His identity is not being released at this time.
The Grundy County Sheriff's Office has requested the assistance of the District Attorney's Office and the TBI as it investigates the incident.

The paper reports the shooting began when a man walked in on his wife with another man.
