CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A Chattanooga organization is taking people to the polls all day Tuesday.
The Sankofa Fund for Civic Engagement, an organization that supports Chattanooga’s communities of color, and GMST Transportation have given more than 40 free rides to Chattanooga voters since early voting took place last month.
Founding member Lakweshia Ewing said the free rides are funded by donors, and temperature checks and masks are a must before anyone rides.
The rides are for anybody in Hamilton County looking to vote Tuesday.
Ewing said the organization has anticipated the need for transportation to polls for a while. She said the lack of certain resources in various areas of the Chattanooga community became evident when the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
If you need a ride to the polls, call 423-771-9144.
These free rides are available to anyone in Hamilton County looking to vote on Tuesday until polls close at 8 p.m.
Ewing said wait times are only about 15 minutes and you will be taken back home after you vote.
If you are in a wheelchair or require extra transportation accommodations, they are able to help you. Just let them know your needs when you call.
