Watch video of the man here.

Police say the incident happened at the Wash Daze laundry mat in Ft Oglethorpe on Monday, shortly before 8 p.m.

A Facebook post says "He took advantage of an elderly Veteran and stole an Apple iPhone 7 cell phone."

The victim is a 20-year army veteran named Francis Bryant.

"He was thanking me for my service and seemed legitimate for what he was saying," said Bryant. "I just took him for a young man in a bad situation."

Bryant told News Channel 9 the suspect said he was waiting for a ride and needed to use his phone. Surveillance video shows the suspect walking away with the phone after Byant turns his back.

Police say they are eager to catch the suspect.

"I think it frustrates everyone to see a crime against a veteran that’s served us," said Captain Keith Sewell. "I think he should be ashamed of what he’s done and I think he should turn himself in."

If you have any information regarding his identity or contact information, please contact Detective Palmer at 706-866-2512.
