Former Tunnel Hill police officer sentenced after pleading guilty to theft

A former Tunnel Hill police officer has been sentenced after pleading guilty to stealing from the department.

In March 2016, Officer Scott Reneau was arrested after the Georgia Bureau of Investigation says he took more than $37,000 and weapons from the Tunnel Hill Police Department.

On Thursday, Reneau pleaded guilty in front of Whitfield Superior Court to six counts of theft by taking and six counts violation of office by a public official.

He has been sentenced to 15 years, 5 years to serve in confinement, and ordered to pay $37,108 in restitution.

Reneau will report to the Georgia Department of Corrections on October 19, 2018.
