The Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department and Dallas Bay Volunteer firefighters responded after a boat caught fire in Harrison Friday afternoon.

The fire on the 25-foot cruiser boat was reported near the Island Cove Marina around 3:20pm.

Highway 58 VFD says an Island Cove Marina resident saw the fiery boat and immediately released the boat into the slough in order to keep it from catching the dock and other boats on fire.

The Hamilton County Hazmat team was called in to contain a possible fuel spill from the charred boat.

NewsChannel 9 photographer Brent McDonald captured pictures of the scene.

Fire officials say the owners of the boat had been running the boat earlier this morning, returned from the lake and left the marina.

Shortly thereafter, they received the phone call that their boat was on fire.

No injuries have been reported, but the damages are listed as between $75,000 and $80,000.

Hamilton County spokesperson Amy Maxwell says the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
