Fire burns dozens of cars at auto salvage shop in Catoosa County
Fire investigators in Catoosa County are working to learn what caused a fire early Tuesday morning at Randy Bohanon Auto & Truck Parts on West Cloud Springs Road.
Fire officials tell our crews on the scene about 25-30 cars burned up in the fire.
Fire departments from Catoosa County, Walker County, Fort Oglethorpe, and Hamilton County responded to the fire.
Traffic on Cloud Springs Road near the intersection of Highway 27 had to be blocked off for about 3 hours while firefighters battled the flames.
But crews were able to reopen the road a little after 5:30 a.m.
A Fort Oglethorpe police officer first noticed the flames at about 2 a.m. and called 911.
A nearby neighbor tells us he noticed a glow and headed to the fire and saw flames shooting 20 to 30 feet into the air.
Viewer Craig Logan Scheer shared this photo of fire on our Facebook page:
Firefighters tell us the presence of a lot of fuel on the site helped fan the flames, and that that will make the investigation more of a challenge.
Right now there's still no word on what caused the fire.
The owner tells us the fire caused a couple hundred thousand dollars in losses, but says "life goes on."
No one was hurt in the fire.
