A hotel in East Ridge is offering up free rooms to all Hurricane Irma evacuees coming from Florida.

Omish Patel is the new owner of Budgetel Inn, which was formally Superior Creek Lodge.

The hotel is currently undergiong renovations and wasn't supposed to open for another two months.

When Patel told the fire department about his plan to open early for evacuees, the fire marshal gave him an order to operate for the next seven days.

"We're starting to see those people come in. They're frustrated, people have been sleeping on the side of the road for hours and hours and we felt like we were in a position to help," said Casey Steinman.

Patel says local businesses have also stepped up to help out by donating food to the evacuees staying at the hotel.

"It was a relief because we had been on the phone just trying to find a hotel because everything from Georgia to Nashville had very limited availability," said Tampa resident Travis Demorgandie.
