DNR: 9-year-old dies after hunting accident in Orangeburg County
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) -- A 9-year-old has died after a hunting accident, according to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
According to Robert McCullough with DNR, the accident happened in the town of Springfield. The accident happened between 8 and 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
The Orangeburg County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Colton Williams, of Williston. The coroner said. Williams died from a gunshot wound.
According to Williston School District 29's Facebook page, Williams was a fourth grade student at Kelly Edwards Elementary School.
A GoFundMe has been set up for Williams' family. According to Williams' obituary, a funeral is scheduled for Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Springfield.
The Department of Natural Resources continues to investigate the incident.
