DA's office plans to prosecute Brainerd HS student rape suspect as an adult
A Brainerd High School student accused of raping another student on school property could be tried as an adult.
School leaders tell us the reported rape happened “well after” dismissal on Wednesday.
We asked why the students weren’t supervised on school property. They say they’re still looking into why they were there in the first place.
On Friday, the District Attorney's says they plan to prosecute the suspect as an adult.
"At this point, we’re not sure why either of the juveniles were at the school at that point,” said Hamilton County Schools spokesman Tim Hensley.
The school is still trying to figure out if either teenager was supposed to be there. The crime is prompting leaders to evaluate their after-hours policy. That’s to improve supervision.
The school’s crisis team is also counseling students and staff.
“They could very well be back Monday. They stay as long as they are needed,” said Hensley.
The suspect is set to appear in court Monday.
