Teen recovering in hospital after cliff jumping accident Monday

UPDATE:

NewsChannel 9 spoke with Cameron Shaffer, the 18-year-old victim, on Tuesday.

He says he has some holes in his left lung, and his entire left side is bruised.

He tells us he jumped off the cliff and "got twisted in the air" and landed his left side.

He's currently in the intensive care unit, but says doctors are optimistic he'll be able to go home soon.

Dallas Bay firefighters rescued a teenager seriously injured in a cliff jumping accident Monday.

At 6:30 p.m., crews got the call, and responded to 6612 Water View Lane in the Hidden Harbor Subdivision.

Dallas Bay VFD personnel say teenagers were jumping off the cliff and into the lake when one fell 40 feet and hit the water, sustaining serious injuries.

Hamilton County EMS spokeswoman Amy Maxwell says rescue crews hiked a quarter mile down the trail to get to the patient.

Crews packaged him and carried him out to EMS personnel. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

We do not yet know the identity of the injured teen.
