Chattanooga Police are actively investigating after a man died after being injured in a crash last week.

CPD spokesperson Elisa Myzal released a statement Friday on the incident.

The Traffic Division responded to 2300 North Chamberlain Avenue around 9:25 p.m. Sunday, January 27.

Investigators say a Mercury Grand Marquis driving east on Crutchfield Street didn't stop for a stop sign, and hit a Honda Accord at North Chamberlain Avenue.

Police say the driver of the Mercury, John Atkins, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. They say he died of his injuries six days later. He was 82.

On February 8, police say the Traffic Unit learned from the Medical Examiner's Office that Atkins' death was a result of the crash.

We've reached out to police about the condition of the other driver.
