Chattanooga man charged with second degree murder in connection with overdose death
A 30-year-old Chattanooga man faces second degree murder charges after police say he contributed to the recent overdose death of a woman.
Police arrested James Shepherd on Tuesday and booked him into the Hamilton County Jail.
Chattanooga Police say after a thorough investigation, investigators determined Shepherd supplied heroin to a 33-year-old woman who was found dead on June 11th in a room at 7014 McCutcheon Road.
The Hamilton County Medical Examiner's preliminary examination concluded the woman's death was caused by a heroin overdose.
CPD spokesperson Elisa Myzal confirms that the woman was one of four people who died of drug overdoses in a 24-hour period between June 10 and 11. The deaths led to police and Mayor Burke warning the community of extremely dangerous drugs being in circulation.
