Child found safe after being inside car stolen in Chattanooga Tuesday afternoon

Chattanooga police officers made quick work of a scary situation after finding a child who had been in a car stolen on Vance Avenue Tuesday.

Our reporter James Torrez is at Derby Street and E 4th Street, where the car was found.

Police were able to find the child within 50 minutes of when the incident was reported.

Spokesman Rob Simmons says when the car was found, the suspect had run away.

Simmons says that the child appears to be fine, but due to the afternoon's high temperatures he was taken to the hospital for a full checkup with doctors.

Simmons says the suspect faces charges for kidnapping, endangerment, as well as theft if caught.

Investigators are on the scene.

Chattanooga police are searching for a car stolen Tuesday with a 2-year-old boy still inside.

CPD spokesman Rob Simmons says a 2006 Silver Mitsubishi Outlander was stolen near Vance Avenue and South Watkins. The car has a handicap Tennessee tag of 97DD888.

The car did not have much gas in it at the time it was stolen.

Simmons says a large group of officers are out searching for the car and child.
