Beloved Gordon Lee Middle teacher, coach passes away
A teacher beginning his 27th year at Gordon Lee Middle School has suddenly passed away.
Chickamauga City Schools Superintendent Melody Day confirmed that Greg Landers died Wednesday. He had just turned 49.
Day says that they held an assembly in his honor Thursday, and that counselors, youth pastors, and other support personnel have been at the school for students and staff.
According to the Gordon Lee Middle website, Mr. Landers taught 8th grade. He was also the school's assistant softball coach.
News Channel 9's Taylor Stewart spoke with teammates, who say this season is dedicated to Coach Landers. All season long they'll be wearing navy ribbons in memory of him.
The Lady Trojans fought through tears to share how Coach Landers impacted their lives.
They say he "was all about being positive" and that's the attitude he'd expect them to bring to the field this season.
