Athens police arrest 2 after Sunday stabbing, including man who was stabbed
Athens Police have arrested two people after a stabbing Sunday night - including the man who they say was sent to the hospital in the incident.
According to police, officers were on the way to a call for service at Clem Jones Apartment complex when a man and woman came up to them.
Police say Dylan Carter had an open wound on his left arm, and he was trying to stop the bleeding with a towel. Carter told officers he'd been stabbed.
According to police, both Carter and the woman with him, Whittney Scruggs, gave officers names and descriptions of two people they said had stabbed him.
As officers investigated their claims, police helped Carter until EMS got there and took him to the hospital.
The police officers say a different story played out during their investigation, however, and that it was Scruggs who had stabbed Carter.
In a statement from police chief's office, officers say the stabbing appeared to have happened during a fight between the two, and that they'd lied about it to police.
Whittney Scruggs was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and making a false report.
Once Dylan Carter was released from the hospital, he was taken into custody and charged with simple assault and making a false report.
They were both booked into the McMinn County Jail. Online jail records list Scruggs as having a $48,000 bond, with a $6,000 bond for Carter.
