NASHVILLE, Tenn.--Officers with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) helped remove an alligator found in a Tennessean's yard on Tuesday.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says a Madisonville resident called police on Tuesday evening after spotting the 4-foot long gator in their backyard.

TWRA said they believe the alligator was an overgrown pet that was released illegally.

Deputies called in TWRA, which captured the gator and relocated it to a local zoo. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says they believe the gator was released by someone who had it in their home.
