Light pole falls after crash on I-75 near Ooltewah, 2 cars damaged
Officials say a light pole fell and hit two cars after a crash on Interstate 75 southbound near Ooltewah Monday afternoon.
Around 12:30 p.m., the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department was called out to the scene, as well as Chattanooga Police who surveyed the damage.
The fire department shared on Twitter that there were only minor injuries in the incident, and no one was taken to the hospital.
According to TDOT spokesperson Jennifer Flynn, a car hit the pole and it broke at the base as it is designed to do.
Flynn says the pole happened within city limits. She says EPB has an agreement with the City of Chattanooga to handle maintenance of lighting along the interstates within city limits.
According to Flynn, if a vehicle knocks down a light pole, the owner's insurance company will be billed for it.
